What is CIRS?

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a multi-system, multi-symptom illness caused by exposure to certain biotoxins in water-damaged buildings, including mold and other environmental toxins.

CIRS is a complex condition that can cause a wide range of symptoms. Patients experiencing CIRS often go misdiagnosed or without a diagnosis because their symptoms mimic other conditions. According to Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker (a top authority on mold illness), 24% of the population is susceptible to their genetics.

Common Misdiagnoses

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Allergies
  • Somatization (such as Hypochondria)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD)
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

What Does a Home CIRS Assessment Involve?

Have you or someone close to you been diagnosed with CIRS? You are hypersensitive to mold and other biotoxins found in water-damaged buildings. If your body cannot defend itself properly, let us help you. Certified Indoor Air conducts a thorough CIRS Inspection and Extra Testing Protocol for the homes of CIRS patients.  Actinomycetes are important bacteria to consider in the diagnostics and management of CIRS sufferers and in Lyme disease.  You should consider Mycotoxin testing if:

You are experiencing symptoms or health effects consistent with mold toxicity.  The presence of Endotoxins in the blood (endotoxemia) typically leads to hypotension, respiratory failure and reduced oxygen delivery.  Strong endotoxemia can lead to sepsis and eventually death.

Why Get a Home CIRS Assessment?

For individuals suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), living in a healthy home is imperative to maintaining proper health and healing. One small crack in the foundation, roof, building envelope, or plumbing of your home can cause catastrophic damage over time, both to the integrity of your home and to your health.

Patients experiencing CIRS are often misdiagnosed with other debilitating illnesses, leaving the patient suffering for years.

The CIRS Procedure and Reporting

Sampling your home environment is necessary to determine if the home contributes to your CIRS inflammatory markers, hormone markers, and relevant antibodies. The procedure includes a thorough inspection and dust collection within your living space and ventilation system. The dust samples are tested for mold species, mycotoxins, endotoxins, and actinomycetes.

These biotoxins electrostatically link-up with particulate in the air and eventually become dust. Dust harbors tiny amounts of mold and other biotoxins and therefore gives the investigator (and a physician) a history of what the building has been subjected to in the past. People with chronic diseases may react negatively to traces of these biotoxins, regardless of age.
